Foot rail otherwise your feet just dangle unless I guess you have very long legs.

This seat has obstructed views if there is an elevated set as was the case in this show. The performer was on the upper level of the set you can see in the photo you could not see him from the waist up. Also your feet dangle if you don't use the foot rail.
